We’ll cut straight to the chase.
Instead of paying for your entire flight upfront, Ryanair lets you pay a 50% deposit on eligible bookings. If you don’t pay the remaining balance by the specified date, Ryanair will cancel your booking and return your full deposit as credit to your account.
So, if the price of your seat drops or you spot a cheaper flight (or your plans just change), you can get your full deposit back as Ryanair credit.
Basically, you can lock in your flight price in case it goes up, but if it drops, you can get your deposit back and rebook for less. And if your plans change, you’re not left out of pocket. Perfect for the indecisive girlies among us.
The trick? Let Ryanair automatically cancel your booking by not paying the remaining balance in time, rather than cancelling it yourself.
HOW did we not know about this until now!? Because the girl math is mathing on this one!
We have travel expert Sarah Slattery to thank for this lil gem of a hack – thank you Sarah, we owe you one x
Sarah says she recently saved €120 on her trip to Crete using this hack when she spotted that her flights had dropped in price. Instead of paying the remaining balance, she let Ryanair cancel her booking and then rebooked for less!
So, whats the catch? There is none, but of course there are some T&Cs, so here are all the deets:
- Regular, Plus and Flexi Plus fares are eligible. The Basic fare isn’t.
- Your booking must cost at least €100.
- You need to book directly through Ryanair.
- All bookings must be made at least 45 days before departure.
- You pay the 50% deposit upfront, with the balance due 40 days before departure.
- If you don’t pay the remaining balance on time, Ryanair will cancel your booking.
- Your deposit is returned as Ryanair credit, which must be used within 12 months.
- You can’t use the deposit option if you add extras like accom, car hire, insurance, etc.
You can find Sarah’s full article on the hack here.
Consider this your sign to start planning the next girls’ trip x
